Day 01 – Saturday, August 24, 2019 – Depart USA
Board your independent overnight flight to South Africa..

Day 02 – Sunday, August 25, 2019 – Cape Town, South Africa
Arrive in Cape Town and transfer to the boutique hotel, Tintswalo Atlantic. Gather this evening for a welcome dinner.

Day 03 – 04 – Monday – Tuesday, August 26 – 27, 2019 – Cape Town
The second-most populous city in South Africa, Cape Town is the provincial capital of the Western Cape as well as the country’s legislative capital. Enjoy breakfast and set out for a full-day tour around the Cape Point Nature Reserve. Drive along the wild and scenic Atlantic coastline on Chapman’s Peak Drive, then take a walk with a local expert to learn about the local species of fynbos vegetation. After lunch in the area, return to Cape Town. This afternoon soak in striking, 360-degree views on a cableway ride to the summit of Table Mountain, a sheer precipice rising some 3,500 feet and slicing across the skyline for almost two straight miles. Hike along one of the well-maintained trails for magnificent sunset views.
The next day, drive to nearby Simonstown and board a local boat for a cruise to search for great white sharks feeding in False Bay. Whales and seals are also a possibility here. After lunch on board, journey back to Cape Town in time for afternoon tea, accompanied by a lecture on the history of South Africa from a local expert. Dinner and overnight at our hotel both nights.

Day 05 – Wednesday, August 28, 2019 – Cape Town / Grootbos
After an early breakfast, depart overland along the coastal road, with stops to appreciate the stunning natural beauty along the way. View an African penguin colony at Stoney Point, then visit the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens for lunch. Continue to Hermanus for a clifftop walk along the edge of Walker Bay, where southern right whales congregate to give birth. Arrive in Grootbos this evening, and check in to Grootbos Forest Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 06 – Thursday, August 29, 2019 – Grootbos
The southern tip of Africa is home to the ocean’s “Big Five”— whales, sharks, dolphins, seals, and penguins—and nearby Walker Bay offers some of the best whale viewing in the world. Board local boats to search for pods of southern right whales and other species. Back on land, head out on foot or by horseback along Grootbos’s excellent trails, go bird watching, or take a 4×4 safari to discover some of the reserve’s over 750 flower species.

Day 07 – Friday, August 30, 2019 – Grootbos / Langebaan National Park
After an early morning outing and breakfast, depart overland for Langebaan, with a stop en route for lunch. Arrive in the Langebaan National Park and enjoy an afternoon of exploration in the Postberg Flower Reserve. Spring flowers should be in full bloom, covering just about every nook and cranny in a riot of colors. Zebra and wildebeest are often found here, as well as ostrich, rock hyrax, and a variety of birds. Check in to the Nirvana Houseboat, located on a beautiful lagoon within the park boundaries, for dinner and overnight.

Day 08 – Saturday, August 31, 2019 – Langebaan National Park
Spend a full day exploring this magnificent park. Search for a wealth of African wildlife such as eland, hartebeest, kudu, gemsbok, bat-eared foxes, and Cape gray mongoose. Notable bird species include black korhaan, Cape spurfowl, and Cape penduline tit.

Day 09 – Sunday, September 1, 2019 – Langebaan National Park / Cape Town / Tswalu Game Reserve
After breakfast, return to Cape Town and board your charter flight to Tswalu Game Reserve, South Africa’s largest private game reserve set in the Kalahari region. Check in to the Motse Lodge, dramatically set at the foot of the Korannaberg Mountains, your base for three nights. Embark on an afternoon game drive before dinner at the lodge.

Day 10 – 11 – Monday – Tuesday, September 2 – 3, 2019 – Tswalu Game Reserve
Explore some of Tswalu Kalahari’s nearly 250,000 acres in one of the world’s last true wilderness areas. While Bushmen have roamed the Kalahari for nearly 20,000 years, the desert’s harsh environment has saved it from further human development. The Korannaberg range provides shelter for the reserve and its particularly rich biodiversity. More in-depth inspection reveals vast savannas and a host of habitats that provide sanctuary for traditional safari game, as well as rare species including black-maned lions, roan antelopes, and desert black rhinos; you’ll even find habituated meerkats. In addition to traditional drives, you can ride by horseback among the wildlife or track game on a bush walk.

Day 12 – Wednesday, September 4, 2019 – Tswalu Game Reserve / Hoedspruit / Timbavati Game Reserve
After an early morning game drive, depart on our charter flight to Hoedspruit. Drive to Timbavati Game Reserve, stopping for game viewing en route. Upon arrival, check in to Tanda Tula Safari Camp, your base for three nights.

Day 13 – 14 – Thursday – Friday, September 5 – 6, 2019 – Timbavati Game Reserve
Adjacent to Kruger—the largest and oldest of South Africa’s national parks—Timbavati is recognized as one of the premier wildlife experiences in all of Africa, hosting some 360 species of birds and 40 mammal species, including the Big Five. The reserve enjoys large breeding herds of buffalo, elephant, and rare wild dogs, as well as ever-elusive white lions. Explore acacia woodlands and open savanna on both guided safari walks and game drives.

Day 15 – Saturday, September 7, 2019 – Timbavati Game Reserve / Hoedspruit / Johannesburg / Depart for Home
After a morning game drive and brunch, transfer to Hoedspruit Airport and board your independent flight to Johannesburg to connect with homeward flights.
