Day-by-day Itinerary:
Day 1 | Arrive, Windhoek, Namibia
Arrive Windhoek, Namibia from Johannesburg, South Africa or from Europe. Clear Customs and Immigration on arrival and meet your tour Leader Nadia Eckhardt.
Spend the remainder of the day resting up or exploring Windhoek.
Windhoek, Namibia
Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, offers a unique blend of African and European cultures, showcased in its German colonial-era architecture and vibrant markets. Surrounded by the stubble-covered Auas Mountains and the endless Khomas Hochland, Windhoek lies in a long valley fed by ancient hot springs in the central highlands. More often than not, Namibia’s capital and bustling city is the start or end place of your Namibia safari. In Windhoek, there are a number of interesting historical buildings, museums, galleries and craft shops. The city has several good restaurants, modern shops, and services making it an excellent base camp from which to launch your Namibian adventure.
Day 2 | Fly to NamibRand Nature Reserve
Check out and meet your private driver for a short road transfer to the local Eros Airport where you will board your flight to NamibRand Nature Reserve. Arrive at the lodge in time for lunch.
Day 3 | Explore NamibRand
Enjoy a morning or afternoon drive from your lodge. These drives cover a distance of about 40- 50 km and take 3-4 hours. Afternoon scenic drives are often combined with sunset in the dunes. A day drive is a truly memorable excursion. Covering a distance of about 120 km it offers the highest degree of diversity as well as a better understanding of the dimensions and geography of the NamibRand Conservancy.
Also, a delicious picnic lunch is served in the middle of nowhere! The day drive leaves after breakfast and returns approximately an hour before sunset.
Day 4 | Fly to Witwater, Sossusvlei
After a leisurely breakfast meet your private transfer and fly from Wolwedans airstrip to Witwater. Transfer to the lodge and check in for two nights. This evening enjoy a beautiful sundowner drive.
Day 5 | Explore Sossusvlei
After breakfast you will get the chance to visit one of Namibia’s most popular and remarkable sites, Sossusvlei. Experience a full day guided tour exploring the large red sand dunes, going into the National Park to visit Deadvlei, Sossuslvei, Dune 45, and other notable sites. At the end of the day, return to the lodge for a relaxing evening.
Sossusvlei
Sossusvlei, located in Africa’s largest conservation area, the Namib-Naukluft National Park, is one of Namibia’s most iconic attractions. Known for its towering red dunes, some nearly 400 meters high, it surrounds a white salt and clay pan that remains dry most years due to the desert’s arid conditions. Occasionally, heavy rains fill the pan, creating a stunning reflective lake that draws visitors and photographers worldwide. Despite its harsh environment, the area supports diverse plant and animal life and is easily accessible, with shuttles available for the final stretch to the vlei.
Namibia’s towering rust-red dunes, bleached white pans and endless blue skies. This is the world’s oldest desert, where star dunes with up to five crests rise 300m into the air and rank among the biggest in the world; the dune valleys are marked by vast clay pans where the Tsauchab River gave up its fight to reach the sea more than 60,000 years ago.
Day 6 | Fly to Swakpomund
After breakfast, check out and take a scenic flight from the Witwater Airstrip, over the vast dune valleys and Sossusvlei to the coastline, past Shipwrecks and Seal colonies to Swakopmund. On arrival, you will be transfer to the town of Swakopmund and to check into your hotel. Spend the afternoon exploring the charming town of Swakopmund on foot and enjoy a fine meal in town.
Swakopmund
Surrounded by the ancient Namib Desert and the inhospitable – but bounteous – Atlantic Ocean, Swakopmund is alive with activity and has a lot to offer for the adventure-seeker. Halfway between Namibia’s top two attractions, Swakopmund makes for an ideal break to the vast distance between Sossusvlei and Etosha. Swakop’s an unusual place. Poking out amidst palm trees are Bavarian spires and there’s a lighthouse dating back to 1902. In fact, there’s a very German feel to it all, with colonial buildings, German style restaurants and coffee shops selling German cakes.
Day 7 | Marine Tour & Sandwich Harbor Tour
After breakfast, get ready for a guided full–day Marine/Boat Tour and a Sandwich Harbor 4×4 Dune Tour. Spend your morning learning about marine life, then in the afternoon after a light lunch, tour the famous Sandwich Harbor.
Day 8 | Kayak Tour Swakopmund
After breakfast, set out for your morning kayaking tour. You will experience Swakopmund from a unique perspective while enjoying the beautiful waters.
Spend the rest of your day at leisure, exploring the town at your own pace. In the evening, return to your hotel for your 3rd and final overnight stay.
Day 9 | Fly to Etosha National Park
Check out of your hotel, meet your private transfer and travel to the Swakopmund airport to depart for Etosha National Park. You will be met on arrival at the Mokuti Airstrip and transfer to your lodge for two nights.
Etosha National Park
The Etosha Pan, covering 4,800 km² within Etosha National Park, is Africa’s largest salt pan and a striking natural landmark visible from space. Once a vast lake, it dried up due to tectonic shifts diverting rivers to the Atlantic, leaving behind its iconic white, alkaline clay surface. In the wet season, rainwater pools attract migrating flamingos, while wildlife uses the salt springs as licks. Rich in history and legend, the pan has been home to early hunter-gatherers, explored by Europeans in 1851, and even served as a backdrop for 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Etosha National Park features numerous waterholes, both natural and man-made, offering some of the best wildlife viewing opportunities, especially during the dry winter months when animals gather to drink. Many camps provide the unique experience of floodlit waterholes, allowing visitors to observe wildlife at night. Each waterhole has its own distinct character, attracting different species depending on the season. These waterholes are prime spots for spotting big and small game alike, making them a highlight of any visit to the park.
Day 10 | Game Drive in the Etosha National Park
Today go on exciting game drives with expert guides. You will gain extensive knowledge of local flora and fauna. You will see a diverse range of species on your journey. Return to the lodge for a relaxing evening.
Day 11 | Depart Home
After breakfast, check out of the lodge and transfer to the Mokuti Airstrip. Charter flight from Etosha to Hosea Kutako International Airport, Windhoek. Check in for your late afternoon/early evening flight to Johannesburg or to Europe.
*Please note: This itinerary is subject to change. In the spirit of expedition travel, plans may change slightly to take full advantage of encounters with the destination and its people, culture, and wildlife.
