I return to South Africa each year to scout and stay informed of the best travel options. It was a treat being back home with family and friends, and scouting places and properties throughout Zululand, Hermanus, Betty’s Bay, Stellenbosch and gorgeous Cape Town.
Eshowe and Zululand have not changed a bit; beautiful rolling hills and a rich Zulu culture is still firmly in place. Some of my favorite South African delicacies were enjoyed like delicious crayfish and lamb ‘potjiekos,’ complemented with a fine Pinotage.
The African penguin colony at Betty’s Bay has grown immensely and is well worth a visit en route to Walker Bay, Hermanus – the home to some of the best land-based Southern Right Whale viewing.
A highlight on this trip was Madikwe Game Reserve and experiences at Jamala Madikwe, Morukuru, and Makanyani Lodges. There is something about an open 4 x 4 on safari, and coming around a corner to see a massive elephant bull or a male lion on the move right in front of you!
When the trip came to a close, I was sad to leave the South African Bush but excited to return to my Africa Easy office to plot and plan more guest safaris to Africa.
